Steven J. Shandley, DDS

Dr. Shandley was born and raised in San Diego, CA. The eldest of 10 children, growing up in a large family taught him to be patient, to accept and shoulder responsibility and to always be aware of the needs of others. These qualities have carried forward into his life and dental practice. He practices dentistry while focusing on his patients’ individual concerns and together with his patients, develops a unique treatment plan for each patient’s needs.

Dr. Shandley completed his undergraduate education at the University of San Diego. He lived at home and commuted to school for four years, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He attended Northwestern University Dental School where he was elected Student Council Class President.

Upon completion of dental school, he chose to further his education in the general practice residency program at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. He was asked to stay a second year as the chief resident in the Department of Dentistry. This tenure proved to be a great experience in treating dental emergencies, treating physically and mentally compromised patients as well as working closely with the ENT surgeons to coordinate treatment for head and neck cancer patients.

Dr. Shandley founded his private practice in 1982 in Hoffman Estates and helped open the Illinois Masonic Center for Family Medicine satellite dental clinic for six years before focusing exclusively on his private practice. His personal interests include: running and bicycling, he has competed in several marathons and triathlons, as well as, scuba diving, fishing, and spending time with his wife Liz and three daughters.

Dr. Kane grew up on a farm in South Barrington and after completing her dental education, returned to practice in her home community. She loves to make a positive impact in her patients’ lives through dentistry, and she also loves building relationships with her patients and getting to know them throughout the years. She feels like her patients are dear friends. Dr. Kane is committed to providing the most effective esthetic dental care possible knowing that the details make all the difference and strives to always know the latest advances in dentistry.

Dr. Kane completed her undergraduate education at Colorado College in Colorado Springs where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. She then attended dental school at Northwestern University, where she was lauded by her instructors as very detail oriented and always striving for perfection.

Upon completion of dental school, she pursued an optional year of advanced training in a general practice residency at the University of Illinois Hospital, Chicago. During this year, she acquired experience and skills in delivering dental care in a comprehensive medical setting. Her dental treatment was focused on physically and mentally compromised patients in a hospital environment.

After completing her residency she joined the staff of the Department of Dentistry at Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago and founded her practice in Hoffman Estates in 1982. At Illinois Masonic she practiced in the “Dentistry for the Handicapped” program and simultaneously opened and ran a satellite dental clinic for the hospital at the Illinois Masonic Center for Family Medicine. She grew the program for the hospital for six years before centering her time on the Hoffman Estates practice with her husband Steve.

Her personal interests include a passion for horseback riding. She has competed in advanced level eventing competitions. She also enjoys scuba diving, skiing, bicycling, hiking and spending time with her husband Steve and three daughters.


Colleen Shandley, DDS

Colleen Shandley, DDS

Dr. Colleen Shandley was born and raised in Barrington. She attended Lines Elementary School, Station Middle School, and Barrington High School. She is the youngest of the three daughters in the Shandley family. As the youngest daughter, Dr. Colleen learned to have patience, listen closely, and to relate to others. She loves to take the time to get to know her patients, so that she can provide them with personalized treatment options and ensure that they have an overall comfortable experience.

Following her education at Barrington High School, Dr. Colleen was accepted into an accelerated Pre-Dental Scholars program at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. In 2015, she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. She then graduated cum laude from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 2018.

During her dental school education at Marquette University, Dr. Colleen participated in three dental mission trips to Jamaica, during which she provided dental care to patients in underserved communities. She has also participated in local outreach programs to provide free dental care to patients in need through the Illinois and Wisconsin Mission of Mercy events. She is inspired to continue to use her skills in dentistry to help those in need.

Upon graduation from dental school, Dr. Colleen went on to complete a hospital-based General Practice Residency Program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She completed the advanced training in 2019. She has also completed high-quality continuing education continuums with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Pankey Institution, and Progressive Orthodontic Seminars. Through these courses she has gained additional training in implant dentistry, managing complex restorative cases, and clear aligner treatment. She is dedicated to advancing her skills to provide the highest quality of care for her patients.

Dr. Colleen is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, and Chicago Dental Society. She is currently the Vice-President of the local branch of the Chicago Dental Society.

Dr. Colleen officially joined Shandley Kane Dental in 2019, although she had already spent many summers in the office learning the ropes as a dental assistant. She has enjoyed sharing a passion for dentistry with her parents. In her free time, Dr. Colleen enjoys running, snowboarding, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband Tim and her dog Winnifred.
